Orange Line Riders Unable To Add CharlieCard Funds Amid 'Technical Issue'

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — (UPDATED 5/13 3:23 p.m.) On Saturday, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority reported that a number of its customers on the Orange Line were struggling to add value to CharlieCards because of a "technical issue."

Certain stations were afflicted by the error, and after discovering the problem, the MBTA opened all fare gates at Orange Line stations while officials work on fixing the machines.

Earlier in the day, the MBTA reported smoke on parts of the Red Line track from a defunct third rail, briefly putting trains on a single track between Alewife and Harvard Stations on the northbound side.
