BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) —  The MBTA announced service changes for January 2025. These changes will take place on the Silver, Orange, Red, Newburyport/Rockport, and Haverhill lines.

Silver Line

On the Silver Line, buses will be at street level from the evening of Jan. 3 and continue through Jan. 5. This will continue the following weekend from the evening of Jan. 10 and continue through Jan. 12.

Connections for South Station and World Trade Center Station can be made on Summer Street at Atlantic Avenue and Congress Street at World Trade Center Station.

Connections for South Station and World Trade Center stations can be made on Summer Street at Atlantic Avenue and Congress Street at World Trade Center Station.

Connections for Courthouse Station can be made on the outbound side of Seaport Boulevard.

During these service changes, Silver Line buses will be at a reduced rate of $0.85 to allow for transfers to and from the Red Line at South Station. The MBTA plans to repair drainage systems in the Silver Line Tunnel at South Station.

Orange Line

On the Orange Line, service will be suspended between Oak Grove and North Station from the evening of Jan. 17 through Jan. 20, which includes Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This will continue from the evening of Jan. 31 through Feb. 2.

Shuttle buses will replace regular T service during this time, making all stops between Oak Grove and North Station. Express shuttle buses will stop at Oak Grove, Malden Center, and North Station.

The Haverhill Commuter Line will be free for riders on the evening of Jan. 17, all day on Jan. 20, and the evening of Jan. 31.

 Red Line

On the Red Line, service will be suspended between JFK/UMass and Braintree from Jan. 25-26.

Shuttle buses will be free to riders and make all stops between JFK/UMass and Braintree during these repairs.

The MBTA also encourages riders to use the Middleborough, Kingston, and Greenbush commuter rail lines for fare free service between Braintree and South Station.

The MBTA plans to make upgrades to signals on the Red Line during this closure.

 Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail Line

Commuter rail service between North Station and Swampscott will be suspended on the weekends of Jan. 18-19 and Feb. 1-2.

Express shuttle bus service will be available between Swampscott and North Station, and shuttle buses will also make local stops between Swampscott and Lynn (within the busway at legacy station), Wonderland for connections to the Blue Line, and Chelsea Station for connections to the Silver Line (SL3), and North Station.

These service changes are in place so workers can address the MassDOT’s Maffa Way/Mystic Avenue Bridge Superstructure Replacements project. The MBTA says that the project “will replace the two deteriorated bridge superstructures and improve bicycle, pedestrian, and transit facilities.”

 Haverhill Commuter Rail Line

Commuter rail service will be suspended between Ballardville and North Station on the weekends of Jan. 18-19 and Feb. 1-2.

Service will be replaced by shuttle buses between Reading and North Station and between Anderson/Woburn and Reading.

Regular fares will still be in effect for riders traveling between Haverhill and Ballardvale and Anderson/Woburn and North Station.

Shuttle bus service will not be available for riders at North Wilmington Station, and passengers are encouraged to use the Lowell Line at Wilmington Station as an alternative option.

Train service for passengers between Ballardville and Haverhill “will be re-routed along the Lowell Line after Ballardville, making one additional stop at Anderson/Woburn before running express service to North Station,” the MBTA said.

The MBTA advises riders looking for service between Reading and Oak Grove to disembark at Anderson/Woburn and utilize shuttle bus service there.

The Orange Line, Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail Line, and Haverhill Commuter Rail Line service changes are in place so workers can address the MassDOT’s Maffa Way/Mystic Avenue Bridge Superstructure Replacements project.

The MBTA says that the project “will replace the two deteriorated bridge superstructures and improve bicycle, pedestrian, and transit facilities.”

There are no planned service changes to MBTA ferry service or THE RIDE at this time.
