BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) Night owls might have an easier time getting around Boston this fall — at least for part of the week.

Starting Aug. 24, the MBTA will be extending evening service on all subway lines and popular bus routes by around one hour on Friday and Saturday nights.

Late night service on the Orange, Blue and Mattapan lines will operate every 15 minutes, while late night service on the Ashmont and Braintree branches of the Red Line and the B, C, D and E branches of the Green Line will operate every 30 minutes.

Bus routes 1, 22, 39, 66, 110, SL1, SL3 and SL5 will offer late night service on Friday and Saturday, but late night service will be offered every day on routes 23, 28, 57, 111, and 116.

Currently, each subway line starts service between 5 and 5:45 a.m. and around 6 a.m. on Sundays, with the last trains running between midnight and 1 a.m. each day. Most buses run between 5 a.m. and 1 a.m.

Trains are also set to run more frequently this fall. Red and Orange Line trains will increase service every day and Blue Line frequency will improve slightly on weekdays. Additionally, Mattapan Line schedules on all days will adjust to better reflect actual trip times and Green Line weekend schedules will adjust slightly to better reflect actual trip times, according to the T.

Bus routes 1, 15, 22, 23, 28 and 31 will become Frequent Bus Routes with service every 15 minutes or better all day.

MBTA ferries will also undergo service changes this fall. Weekend service for the F2H Hingham-Hull routes, the F8 Winthrop and Quincy route and the F5 Lynn ferry will end on Oct. 12. Weekday service for the F5 Lynn ferry will end on Nov. 26. Service for the F6 Winthrop and F7 Quincy ferries will also end on Nov. 26. Service for the F3 East Boston ferry will end on Nov. 30.
