BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Gov. Maura Healey and the MBTA are cracking down on drivers who block bus lanes.
With the help of automated cameras, drivers caught blocking bus stops or lanes will receive a fine from the MBTA, thanks to new legislation signed into law by Gov. Healey earlier this year. Some commuters have a lot of experience when it comes to dealing with offenders. Ryan works at Northeastern and said his daily bus commute can be a nightmare.
"It's like 30-minute delays because there's been cars that are just standing there. Especially when you have trucks just waiting there."

Beginning early next year, culprits caught preventing buses from moving will face a $25 fine for the first violation and will increase to $125 for multiple violations.
The MBTA will launch a pilot program first in order to test the camera technology on a few buses before issuing tickets. The ticketing program will slowly roll out in 2026. Marcus from Roxbury doesn't think the program is fair.
"I think it's unfair to drivers."
