BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — MBTA Transit Police arrested a man Monday on prior warrants after they say he threatened a bus driver because he didn't want to pay his fare.

TPD officers were called to Mass Ave and Allstate Road around 3:40 p.m., where a bus driver pointed them to Nicholas Mendes, 29.

The driver said Mendes got on the Route 16 MBTA bus, said "I run this block," and threatened to have someone shoot the driver.

Mendes told police he was "entitled to a free ride" because the bus was late.

Officers took Mendes into custody after learning he had several warrants out for his arrest. He was wanted out of Brighton District Court for motor vehicle violations, as well as out of Roxbury District Court for failure to disperse during a riot and resisting arrest.
