BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Red Line service will be suspended between Harvard and Broadway from November 17-23 for track work and repairs.

Service between Harvard and JFK/UMass will also be affected on November 24 for similar repairs.

The MBTA said that the Sunday-to-Sunday suspension and the extension was made to accommodate the placement and removal of equipment to accomplish the repairs.

There will be free shuttle buses between Harvard and Broadway and Harvard and JFK/UMass, except at Park Street and Downtown Crossing.

The MBTA has advised riders to add extra time to their regular commute if using the shuttle buses. Riders can also choose to utilize the fare-free Commuter Rail Line during service work.

The MBTA added that these repairs are a necessary component of the Track Improvement Program which will replace tracks and ties and reduce speed restrictions for riders.

Other improvements will include signal work and upgrades to station lighting, painting, tiling, and power washing.

Riders can learn more about service disruptions by visiting the MBTA website.
