MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Charlotte & William Bloomberg Medford Public Library held a ‘History of Nintendo’ event on Friday.
The 3-hour event consisted of dozens of TVs with consoles ranging from the Nintendo Entertainment System to the Nintendo Wii, all the way up through the new Nintendo Switch 2. Next to each setup was a short description explaining the history of each gaming system.
Plainfield video game store One Up Games provided the systems for the event, as they are known for traveling up and down the east coast in order to showcase gaming history with their extensive collection of consoles.
Max Silvestri with One Up Games further explained their travels.
“We work with many schools, colleges, libraries, we go to a lot of different places; we’ll go to cons (conventions) and stuff like that,” Silvestri said.

Megan English was also with the store, and she said that the places they visit have done a great job at spreading the word about them.
“Wall to wall gaming, almost like a gaming café,” English said. “It’s a lot of word of mouth, which we appreciate from the libraries. It’s just everyone having a good time, and it’s just word of mouth.”
The showcase of consoles played with wired controllers, played on CRT-TVs, and games with less detailed graphics found on giant cartridges threw some younger participants for a loop. Some even commented on the odd design and shape of the three-pronged Nintendo 64 controller.
“Why is the control stick right in the dead center?” one participant said. “It looks like it was made by people with three hands or something.”
