Officials say the assault is an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the school district. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office is working with school officials to ensure safety to resume class on Tuesday. Police presence will be visible throughout the rest of the week, police said.
The student in police custody faces an assault charge. Since both parties involved are juveniles, their identities will not be released.
