MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Brass and string music filled the air at Medford Condon Shell for the second annual Medford Trad Jazz Festival.
This music festival is a free community event that brings together traditional and modern jazz fans for a weekend of fun. This year’s festival took place on August 24 and 25.
One jazz attendee of the festival told WBZ NewsRadio that to her, jazz is fun and silly.
“The chord progressions: some would say they’re simple, but I would say they’re like comfort food.”
Ashley, who is playing in the festival, agrees with that sentiment and told WBZ NewsRadio that she “talked and laughed before about having a set list that’s made up entirely of songs about food. Just show you how silly some of these tunes are,” she continued.
When the festival moved to Medford, Organizer Annie Linders thought the Condon Shell would be a great place for a jazz concert. She said she's hoping the festival will be "a shift away from that kind of difficult way to reach an audience."
This is only the second year of the festival, so far this year's event has drawn over 150 attendees. Linders and her ensemble, “Annie and the Fur Trappers,” are one of the ten jazz bands playing at the festival.
