MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new pathway connecting two popular areas in Medford is now open.

The Clippership Connector creates more than 10-miles of continuous greenway between Medford Square, McGlynn Schools and Riverbend Park for pedestrians and bikers.

“It’s so much better than walking on the street,” Dina Smith of Medford told WBZ NewsRadio. “I don’t walk a ton on this side of Medford but when I do, I would definitely do this over Riverside Avenue.”

The project broke ground in 2023, and nearby residents, like Darlene of Somerville, say the opening has been long awaited after dodging fences and construction barriers for so long.

“I see a ton of people coming that I’ve never seen walking through here, so it’s great,” she continued.

According to the Department of Conservation and Recreation, this connector aims to “maximize opportunities” to allow people to have closer access to the Mystic River, all with environmental sustainability in mind.

The Clippership Connecter project is still ongoing as landscaping and other improvements are being made.

Additionally, the Mystic River Watershed Association has several other greenway projects underway, including the Wellington Underpass that will connect Wellington T station, Wellington Greenway and Torbert MacDonald Park with a boardwalk under Route 28.
