WOBURN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — More than 12,000 patients of North Shore Pain Management have been notified that their personal and financial information has been stolen by hackers.
The company, which has one location in Woburn and one in Beverly, said the ransomware attack happened on April 16th and was initially detected on April 21st.
Involved in the hack were patients' names, dates of birth, social security numbers, health insurance information, clinical information about care received, and some bank account information.
NSPM said the acquired files "contained information belonging to patients who directly paid NSPM or North Shore Anesthesia or whose insurance paid NSPM or North Shore Anesthesia between August 1, 2014, and April 16, 2020."
The treatment center said it is working with the FBI, Secret Service, and privacy professionals to investigate the incident and secure its network.
NSPM is urging patients to take a close look at their bank statements and insurance claims. The company has also set up complimentary credit card monitoring for those whose social security numbers were stolen.
