CANTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Gourmet Garden's newest employee is three feet tall and has a lot of personality, but she's not what who you'd expect to see bringing out your meal.
Her name is Bella, and she's a robot that's designed to help restaurants by bringing out food from the kitchen and dropping it off at diner's tables. Gourmet Garden 'hired' Bella to help deliver food to tables and for take out orders during meal rushes when the restaurants staff is swamped.
Angus, the general manager at the Canton restaurant, told WBZ's Suzanne Sausville Bella also helps them deal with a shortage of workers.
"She's a good helper for the restaurant," he said. "She never gets tired and she'll never quit."
Bella has already become a familiar sight to diners in Gourmet Garden.
"I know what it is so it doesn't creep me out," one customer said.

Some customers think that having a robot worker is good for the restaurant.
"I guess if you can't find help and the young people don't want to work, you got a robot to replace them," he said. "It doesn't call in sick, it's dependable, and it's always there."
Angus said Bella is not intended to replace workers, but he does have a plan to buy a couple more soon.
