BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Not only was Monday 'National Dog Day,' an event was held Tuesday in Concord, NH recognizing the irreplaceable role dogs have taken in our lives.

NH officials introduced 'Winni,' a female golden retriever and the state's very first comfort dog.

Winni is dedicated to providing emotional support and assistance during challenging times as part of the state's 'Comfort Dog Program' that the NH Department of Safety's Division of Emergency Services and Communications announced at the event.

Meanwhile, dog lovers had a reason to spoil their four-legged best friends even more than usual on Monday as it was 'National Dog Day.'

In Boston's Seaport District at the 'Polkadog Bakery' that specializes in canine culinary and play treats, assistant manager Ellie said people love spoiling their pooches. "The maximum I've seen is well over one hundred dollars," she said.

A small price to pay for our beloved companions.
