MELROSE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Melrose Police say a man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly murdering his dog Friday night.

Adam Crook, 44, is accused of killing the dog by hitting it on the head with a large rock multiple times after dragging into the backyard from his home.

Police say the Crook then allegedly buried the dog's body in his yard.

"This suspect's alleged actions are absolutely reprehensible and inexcusable," Melrose Police Chief Michael Lyle said.

Crook was arrested on Sunday. He is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday in Malden District Court.
