MELROSE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – A Melrose mom, who received some special assistance when she went into labor, reuinited with the officer who helped her give birth.
On August 19, officer Ashely Baldwin received a call shortly after 3:00 am that a woman was going into labor at her home.
When Baldwin arrived, she found the woman in the advanced stages of labor, Melrose police said in a statement.
Baldwin, who is also a registered nurse, helped to successfully deliver a healthy baby girl at the woman’s home.
She later passed the two onto Melrose Fire Department, who then transported mom and baby to a local hospital.

Baldwin, who joined the department in December, is a former Winchester Hospital nurse. She also works in the emergency department at Massachusetts General Hospital on top of her police work.
“Officer Baldwin represents an evolving brand of police officer,” Melrose Police Chief Michael Lyle said in the statement. “She is highly-educated, with a focus on health and wellness as well as safety and law enforcement.”
The mother and her newborn, named Avery, were released from the hospital over the weekend. On Tuesday, they made a special visit to Melrose Police Department for Baldwin to meet Avery for the second time.
“We are proud of Officer Baldwin for her outstanding work and are excited to welcome this beauty baby girl into the world,” added Melrose Mayor Paul Brodeur.
