BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Most people traveling for Memorial Day weekend hit the road, but millions still chose to hit the skies.

"We're actually spending a week at Isle Royal. It's a national park in the middle of Lake Superior. It's a literal island," said one Bostonian as she prepared to head out of Boston.

AAA projects 45 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home between Thursday, May 22, and Monday, May 26 for Memorial Day. This forecast is an increase of more than one million people compared to 2024. More than three million of those travelers are expected to book tickets for the friendly skies.

"It worked out where we're flying out Memorial Day. This is her week off," said one traveler as he prepared to catch a flight with his wife.

Although Boston Logan International Airport ranks #16 among the top 20 major domestic airports, it is one of the busiest. More than 40 airlines fly nonstop to over 100 destinations. In May 2024, almost 4 million people traveled through Boston-Logan alone. And as travelers prepare to continue their holiday journeys, they are optimistic about the experience.

"I hope that security is nice, and I hope to get to Tampa safe," said one traveler.
