CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The suspect in a shooting that shut down part of Memorial Drive and injured two victims was arraigned in Cambridge District Court virtually from his hospital bed.
Tyler Brown pleaded not guilty to all eight charges against including two felony counts of armed assault with intent to murder. Brown was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.
Authorities said he went on a shooting spree Monday afternoon on Memorial Drive with an assault-style rifle. Two bystanders were sent to the hospital with gunshot wounds. One victim has since been released and the other remains hospitalized.
The suspect was also shot while a Massachusetts State Police trooper and a civilian Marine, who had a legal firearm, worked to take him down.
Brown has a lengthy criminal history and recently left prison on parole after he was involved with a shootout with Boston Police in 2020.
Prosecutors said shortly before Monday's shooting, Brown Facetimed his parole officer, who alerted police that Brown appeared under the influence and was holding a firearm.
"Mr. Brown made various statements including saying that 'these people are going to pay' and 'I'm not going back to prison,'" Middlesex Assistant District Attorney Nicole Allain said at Thursday's arraignment.
She also said Brown made "suicidal statements" to his parole officer and that there were "over 70 discharged ammunition casings located" around the area of the shooting.
