WARNER, NH (WBZ NewsRadio) — Former WBZ NewsRadio Anchor Jim Mitchell may have died more than 15 years ago, but residents of the town in New Hampshire where he used to live, and love, are keeping his memory very much alive.
Mitchell co-owned 'MainStreet Bookends' in Warner with his sister Katharine Nevins.
He moved there in 1998 after she convinced him to make the move and help her launch the bookstore. "He was very charismatic, very humble, and people adored him," Katharine said. "And in turn, he really adored Warner," she remembered.
She also recalled how Jim was just getting a new park for the town established when he died in 2008 of a heart attack at the age of 58.
She said residents of the town were hit very hard by his death.
But they pulled together and got the park built, naming it the 'Jim Mitchell Community Park.'
His legacy includes a non-profit that he and his sister started called 'MainStreet Warner' which is currently supporting the renovation of the town's Masonic Lodge to create a new community gathering and performance space.
