ARLINGTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An Arlington restaurant created a special menu this week in honor of its namesake.
Menotomy Grill & Tavern was named after the Battle of Menotomy, a Revolutionary War confrontation that happened on the same day as the Battle of Lexington & Concord.
To celebrate Arlington Restaurant Week and commemorate the 250th anniversary of the battle, Menotomy created a special menu inspired by food from colonial times.
“It's a three-course prefix menu,” restaurant managing partner Billy Lyons said. “We're having some fun with it, somewhat historical”
The items on this menu include New England clam chowder, a mixed green salad, a tavern beef pie and a pan roasted cod. For dessert, there’s sticky toffee pudding and strawberry shortcake.
They’re also serving some alcoholic beverages right out of the 18th century.
“We have a naturally fermented cast-conditioned ale served a 50°, which is how they drank the beer back in the 1700s,” Lyons said. “We have a spruce ale and the recipe is from Ben Franklin's family.”

Elizabeth Locke from the Arlington Chamber of Commerce said “That (the sticky toffee pudding) is delicious, I don’t know that they ever had anything quite that good in colonial times, probably not.”
She also tried the 50° ale and was similarly impressed.
“It's kind of like drinking the sap from a Christmas tree,” she said.
Arlington Restaurant Week is scheduled to run from April 12-21.
