Merrimack College Dorm Quarantines After Group Tests Positive For Covid-19

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds of students at Merrimack College are in quarantine, after 17 students test positive for Covid-19 in a dorm hall on campus.

The over 260 students who live in Monican Hall have been ordered to quarantine, and a majority of them are now off-campus or at home in self isolation. As for the students still on campus, the college said they are in their own areas, separate from others.

In a statement on Wednesday, the North Andover college said the number is concerning, and has led to an aggressive contact tracing program to find out where the cases came from. The dorm hall, intended for incoming freshman, is also set to undergo a cleaning and disinfection process.

The rest of the campus is still open for students who were not impacted by the cases, and classes will continue to run on schedule.

According to the school, no other student in any of the other dorm halls has contracted the virus.
