Pair Suspected In ATM Thefts Arrested In Methuen

METHUEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two Canadian men suspected in a string of ATM robberies were arrested in a Methuen hotel Saturday morning.

Tharushan Nirmalachandran, 30, of Quebec, and Ajitharan Raveendran, 28, of Ontario, are each charged with possession of a burglarious instrument and receiving stolen property over $1,200.

Methuen Police served a search warrant at the Days Inn on Pelham Street shortly before 7 a.m., acting on a tip from Hudson, New Hampshire police. They found Nirmalachandran and Raveendran inside.

In the motel room, police found a duffel bag filled with cash, gift cards, debit cards, a printing device, and an electronic device determined to be used to activate and utilize bank cards.

"This is a great example of a successful collaboration between two departments, in two states," Methuen Police Chief Joe Solomon said in a release. "Great work to the Hudson, New Hampshire Police Department, and to the Methuen Officers who swiftly and effectively executed this search warrant and investigated today."

The pair are being held on $250,000 bail each, pending their arraignment Monday.
