METHUEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Methuen residents lined up early to honor those who served.
On Monday morning, Methuen’s annual Veterans Day parade kicked off from American Legion Post 122. Unlike previous years, many residents got to the parade route early to cheer for the men and women who answered the call to serve.
“There’s a lot of people out here today. Usually, there’s not that many, but I think we’re all celebrating America,” said Kathy Jones with the Methuen Exchange Club.
Gulf War veteran Bob St. Louis brought a younger family member to the parade. He said this year’s turnout was a pleasant surprise.
“Last year was a little sad, but this year is much better than it was, so I’m happy to see that,” said St. Louis. “It is super important that they start coming to these things and realize what [sacrifices these] veterans made, especially the ones that didn’t come home.”
The parade returned to American Legion Post 122, following a ceremony at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
