BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Governor Maura Healey has announced an emergency overflow shelter will soon be opening in Boston's Fort Point neighborhood.

She said the United Way will use the building on Farnsworth Street between Seaport Boulevard and Congress St. to help migrants in need of housing.

Locals in and around that area have mixed feelings about the move. "It's already hard enough to find housing for people who want to live here and are paying a lot of money to live here," one woman said.

Another had a different opinion. "I guess this is an upscale neighborhood. But we do have a migrant problem, and they do need a place to live," he said. "I'm fine with that."

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said it's important the state is involving the public in any decisions to open shelters.

The United Way said it will be sharing details with neighbors as soon as this week.
