Milton Police Say Dozens Of Checks Were Stolen In Last Few Months

MILTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Milton Police said on Friday that there have been 31 cases of checks being stolen from various mailboxes of town residents.

According to police, the thefts occurred from standard mailboxes, tamper proof mailboxes, and residential mailboxes. The stolen checks were then altered to indicate large sums and cashed throughout the state at different financial institutions, officials said.

Milton Police said that over $100,000 has been fraudulently obtained as of Friday.

Police asked the public to report any suspicious activity near any mailboxes, and recommended that residents use online banking services or hand deliver letters to the post office.
