NORTH TRURO, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Saturday, the Coast Guard suspended its search for a missing man off Cape Cod, ten hours after finding a body later identified as his kayaking partner.
The Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England received a call at around 11 p.m. Friday, reporting an overdue kayaker, 50-year old Carol Madru.
Officials said Madru was last seen with 51-year-old Marc-Oliver Czarnecki.
According to the Coast Guard 1st District Northeast, "Madru was found unresponsive at around 6:30 a.m. Saturday on the eastern shore of Provincetown Harbor, and later declared deceased."
Crews searched 180 square miles around North Truro for 16 hours, and suspended the search for Czarnecki at around 3:40 p.m. Saturday. He is still considered missing.
