CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds of MIT students were given a rude awakening in the middle of the night on Wednesday. The university says someone called in a bomb threat at the MIT's Simmons Hall just before 2:00 a.m.

MIT Police said they got a call from someone who claimed to be a student. The person claimed they had placed bombs in the dorm building.

The building's designer says the dorm holds more than 300 students, who had to be evacuated. A Cambridge Police bomb squad and police dogs needed to search the entire 10-story building.

Students were allowed to return to the building at about 4:30 a.m., according to NBC 10. This is the second time this week that one of Cambridge's colleges was targeted with a hoax threat. Harvard University was hit with a "swatting" call on Monday.
