Moderna CEO: Vaccine Could Be Ready For Emergency Use By December

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The CEO of Cambridge-based biotech company Moderna said their vaccine could be given emergency authorization as early as December.

CEO Stéphane Bancel made the remarks during a conference hosted by the Wall Street Journal

The vaccine’s readiness hinges on the interim results of a large clinical trial that is currently underway. Bancel expects those results to be ready in late November.

If the results are positive, the federal government can approve the vaccine for emergency use.

Moderna’s announcement comes right on the heels of vaccine competitor Pfizer, which announced they could seek emergency authorization from the federal government by third week of November at the earliest.
