CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Cambridge-based pharmaceutical company Moderna released the findings of its TeenCOVE study on the effects of its COVID-19 vaccine in adolescents on Tuesday.
The company said the vaccine was 100% effective in preventing COVID in 12-17 year olds after they had been fully vaccinated.
Moderna also highlighted another bright spot of the study, about a commonly asked question on the two-dose COVID shots: how effective is the vaccine after only the first shot?
At least in adolescents, Moderna said its vaccine was 93% effective two weeks after receiving the first dose.
The study included more than 3,700 participants. Moderna said side effects were usually mild to moderate, mostly consisting of headaches, fatigue, chills, and muscle aches.
Moderna said it will be applying for a change in its Emergency Use Authorization with the FDA and other global heath regulators in early June.
