Months Following Gas Explosions, New Lawrence Firefighters Sworn In

LAWRENCE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — New firefighters were sworn in Sunday in Lawrence.

Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera presided over the ceremony as 10 new Lawrence firefighters took the oath. The city welcomed three new lieutenants, and two new captains.

This comes months after the September gas explosions in the Merrimack Valley. Rivera said the new firefighters are serving a grateful city following the explosions.

“We couldn’t call Andover for mutual aid. We couldn’t call North Andover for mutual aid. But when mutual aid came, it came in force,” Rivera said.

The amount of new firefighters in Lawrence is larger than what has been recently seen.
