BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Another 290 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed by the Massachusetts Department of Health on Saturday, bringing the state's total number of confirmed cases to 110,077.
Since March, the state DPH has also reported close to 8,000 probable cases of the virus.
The state's seven-day weighted average rate of positive molecular tests has been ticking up slowly over the past two weeks. It rose from 1.7 percent in mid-July, to 2.1 percent on Saturday.
According to Gov. Baker, private parties and gatherings are contributing to the recent rise in daily case numbers and the positive test rate in the Commonwealth.

The DPH also confirmed an additional 17 deaths among confirmed cases of the virus on Saturday. More than 8,600 deaths in Massachusetts have now been attributed to confirmed or probable cases of COVID-19.
