More Than A Dozen Arrested At Boston-Area Beaches Over Weekend

REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — State and local police tried to control a chaotic scene over the weekend, as thousands of people swarmed local beaches during a blast of unseasonable heat.

State Police pointed out two problem areas in particular: Carson Beach in South Boston and Revere Beach in Revere.

Four people were arrested on Carson Beach Sunday on assault and battery and disorderly conduct charges, as several hundred people visited the beach. Troopers said crowds of thousands made their way to the beach on Saturday, and five were arrested on similar charges.

The State Police Association of Massachusetts paints an unruly picture of the weekend's events in Southie — the union said fights broke out while some beach goers set off fireworks, attacked troopers who were making arrests, and even set police property on fire.

Revere Beach was the site of seven arrests on Saturday, on charges ranging from an OUI to domestic assault. Of the 17 people arrested throughout the weekend, nine were under age 18. Just one person was arrested on Sunday, after a smaller turnout than the day before.
