Mount Auburn Cemetery Holds Mother-Themed Tour

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mount Auburn Cemetery held a unique way to celebrate Mother’s Day.

The Memories of Mothers tour was held at the cemetery in Cambridge on Sunday. Guides led visitors to the burial sites of notable mothers in history.

“I had really wanted to do this. I felt this was a very good way to spend Mother’s Day,” attendee Tina, of Arlington, said. “They’ve selected some excellent women that are buried here. And also, we were fortunate to get into the chapel earlier that just was rebuilt. And that was quite beautiful.”

Among the women buried there was Julia Ward Howe, who wrote the "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." She also founded Mother’s Peace Day, which has become the Mother’s Day that is celebrated today.
