LYNNFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Residents and town employees in Lynnfield are dealing with some challenges while new town offices are being built.
With construction now well underway, it can be difficult finding municipal offices that have been moved around. There's also temporary housing for police and fire while a new public safety building is going up.
Town Administrator Rob Dolan said residents agreed to pay more taxes to build these much needed new facilities including a new town hall. "Our fire and police stations were built when we had all volunteers," he said.
He added that it was a challenge finding temporary spaces for all of the offices and employees displaced by the construction until the new buildings are finished. "We realized, where are we going to put everybody?"
For now, some of the town offices are located above stores on Main Street. Some are at Lynnfield Marketplace. The Senior Center and the Lynnfield Police are working out of an old house.
But Dolan said they are making the best of it. "Shockingly it works."
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
