METHUEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — MSPCA at Nevins Farm is hosting an adoptathon this weekend after taking in nearly 150 farm animals from a property in Franklin County.
On June 6 and 7, the Methuen farm will waive adoption fees for pigs, goats, chickens, and fowl.
The MSPCA said many of the animals that were taken from the property in April ended up having babies, and now there are over 300 animals living at Nevins Farm.

“Obviously following that kind of intake, our resources are really being pushed to the brink,” said Mike Keiley, vice president of the MSPCA-Angell’s Animal Protection Division.
Earlier on, Nevins Farm took in a horse named Astrid from the same property that needed to spend a week in the hospital. Keiley said the farm is also asking people to donate to support the medical care that was needed for Astrid and other animals from the property, which has totaled around $25,000.
The investigation into the animals’ owner is ongoing, according to the MSPCA.
“We need to find homes for a lot of these animals and fast,” Keiley said. “We typically see more cases of neglect in turbulent economic times and, given what we’re already seeing with the increasing costs of hay and feed, I expect more animals will need to come to Nevins soon, whether through owner surrender or related to law enforcement cases.”

The farm is hoping to adopt out around 120 animals during the adoptathon. You can register for the event here.
