BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty is seeking information about an emaciated stray dog found in Dorchester.
The Cane Corso mix, now known as Balboa, arrived at the Angell Animal Medical Center on April 22. According to Dr. Emily Hussey, who examined the canine, Balboa was weak and underweight, with his ribs and hip bones visible. His body temperature was also dangerously low at 94.4 degrees Fahrenheit. Hypothermia can happen if a canine's temperature drops below 95 degrees.
Balboa is now on a refeeding plan while the organization prepares him for a foster home to continue his recovery. Once his rehabilitation is complete, the dog will return to the shelter to be neutered and put up for adoption.

The MSPCA asks that anyone with information about Balboa contact MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement by phone at (617) 522-6008 or (800) 628-5808 or online at mspca.org/tip.
The organization acknowledges that some pet owners might be struggling right now as the cost of living continues to increase, straining household budgets.
“We recognize that times are especially challenging right now, and we want to support animals and the people who care for them," Hussey said. "When our community comes together, we can help keep pets and their families together.”
Residents in need of assistance with their four-legged friends can find more information about available resources on the MSPCA website.
