METHUEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — If you have ever wanted to own a pet goat, now is your chance.

On Saturday, the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) will host its second fee-waved open house for goats at Nevins Farm. MSPCA officials said many of the goats up for adaptation came from a property in Ayer, Mass.

“We ended up with 49 goats from the Ayer case, and it’s taken some time to get them all ready for adoption,” said Nevins Farm’s Kaycie McCarthy. “We had to wait until the pregnant goats had babies, and we also had many males that needed to be castrated.”

The MSPCA said there are roughly 40 goats between 5-months-old and 10-years-old. Only the goats aged one or older will have the adoption fees waived, which can typically range from $150 to $250.

“We don’t often waive fees for goats as they’ve historically been adopted pretty quickly after coming to the farm. But given the number of surrenders we’ve had in the last few months, our population has swelled, so we need to pull out all the stops to get these animals into the loving homes they deserve,” said McCarthy.
