BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Multiple departing and arriving flights at Logan International Airport have been delayed or cancelled after a deadly plane crash in Washington D.C. Wednesday night.

American Airlines flight 5342 collided with a Black Hawk military helicopter shortly before 9 p.m. Authorities believe all passengers on both aircrafts died. Six people associated with the Skating Club of Boston in Norwood were on the plane.

The flight was scheduled to arrive at Washington’s Reagan National Airport, which was closed Thursday morning to arrivals and departures amid a recovery effort. The airport was later reopened at 11 a.m.

As of 5:51 p.m. on Thursday, 49 flights were delayed, and 30 flights were cancelled at Logan, according to FlightAware.

Passengers who were planning to fly into Reagan National Airport have now been rerouted to either Dulles International Airport in Virginia or Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in Maryland.

WBZ NewsRadio spoke to passengers at Logan.

Lorena was bound for the West Coast, but flies in and out of Reagan National Airport all the time for work.

“It’s honestly terrifying,” Lorena said. “I’m still in shock as to how this happened and how close it was [to the airport].”

“I can’t let [incidents like this] make me fear flying,” Shelia, who was visiting from North Carolina, said.
