NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A roaring round of applause meets the performance from the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and its Intensive Community Program which gives musicians as young as five-years-old the chance to play on center stage.

"It's building imagination and community— music tells a story and the story can vary.

For the first time the annual concert was held at Newton North High School.

"Our newest students have been playing for less than one year, and they're coming together to play some holiday music together," said ICP Artistic Director Nicole Cariglia.

The concert had all the classics like Joy to the World and Silent Night. Conductor Marta Zurad said that she relies on older students to help out the younger ones, leaning on each other to learn the instruments.

"For five-year-old's to walk in and be part of this orchestra— it was kind of daunting," Zurad said.
