SALEM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — It's as American as a baseball game.

A hot dog, that is.

And on this National Hot Dog Day, the food that many believe is the quintessential summer food is being celebrated and devoured all over including at Boston Hot Dog Company in Salem, Massachusetts.

Owner Mike Denk said one of his biggest sellers is the Reuben Dog. "It's a real fan-favorite," he said. "Corned Beef and Swiss, slathered with Russian dressing layered over a hot dog. "And you can't go wrong with the chili cheese dog," he said.

Mike believes the hot dog doesn't get the credit it deserves. "I think hot dogs are the most underrated, undervalued food there is," he said.

Speaking of underappreciated, according to a 'Lawn Love' report that ranked the nation's 'Best Cities for Hot Dog Lovers,' Boston did not make the Top Ten.

According to the report, New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles are the Top Three Best Cities for Hot Dog Lovers.

Boston ranked 16th.
