BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A group of sailors filled the air with music in downtown Boston Sunday.

The Rhode Island-based Navy Band Northeast, one of the 11 United States Navy bands, performed a mix of classics and pop favorites in front of the New England Aquarium and Faneuil Hall.

"We have shipmates all around the world, you know, protecting our shipping lanes and protecting our freedoms. So we’re out here representing them," said Petty Officer 2nd Class Jordan Frederick, a member of the brass quintet.

The concerts served as a finale for Navy Week Boston, which began on Monday, July 1. This was the first time Boston hosted a Navy Week since 2012.

"It’s been fantastic. Boston is such a beautiful city," Frederick said. "We’ve been to Fleet Week New York, there was a Fleet Week Philadelphia. So we get around and we share the story of the United States Navy."

Apart from the music, Navy sailors spent the week volunteering in local endeavors, making appearances at Boston City Hall, the JFK Library, and Harborfest, and hosting educational presentations at the Museum of Science and USS Constitution Museum.

"This is just an opportunity for the public to have a firsthand encounter with members of the United States Navy," said Frederick.
