BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported another 2,991 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Saturday, upping the state's total number of cases to 197,329.
The state DPH also reported another 19 deaths among confirmed cases, bringing the total COVID-death toll in Massachusetts to 10,257.
The seven-day average rate of positive coronavirus tests in the Commonwealth has risen over the past month to around 3.2 percent. The DPH said there are currently an estimated 37,000 active cases of the virus in the state.
The state's seven-day average number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 has more than doubled since November 1st.
There are currently 891 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Massachusetts, and 187 coronavirus patients are receiving intensive care.
During the first two weeks of November, a majority of the state's newly confirmed cases were in people aged 20-29 years (6,186 new cases,) followed by people aged 0-19 years (5,015 new cases.)
According to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center, the U.S. has now confirmed more than 12 million cases of COVID-19, and more than 255,000 Americans have died of the virus to date.
