BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The extension for the Neponset River Greenway biking and walking trail has been completed and is open to the public.
This new stretch of the path connects Tenean Beach with Morrissey Boulevard. Originally bikers in this stretch were forced to share busy roads with cars and other vehicles, including during rush hour traffic. The extension consists of a combination of paved sections and metal bridges that completely bypass the congested roadways, along with scenic views of the ocean, city skyline, and landmarks like the gas tank.
Reception of these renovations has been very positive just a few days into the new path’s opening.
Jack said he has already been using the trail for a few days.
“Just went up to Sullivan’s and back, and I’ll be over at the Granite Ave. Bridge,” Jack said. “It’s a great ride, it’s safe, I love it.”
Ozgun talked about how this new trail has been a long time coming, but it has absolutely been worth it for him.
“Well, I was waiting for it for two years actually,” Ozgun said. “I’m very excited about this and now I’m using it every day.”

Shoubhik is a grad student from UMass Boston, and he said that the fact that the path avoids all the dangerous roads is a major plus to this extension.
“This one directly connects me to the bridge, which avoids all the traffic and rush hour things that happen there,” Shoubhik said. “It’s a very good time saver.”
Megan said that as someone who runs a lot, the smoother and safer path is a major selling point.
“When you wake up on any random morning, it’s so easy to just run from your house,” Megan said. “It was getting really scary trying to run from Morrissey all the way down to Castle Island without this.”
The Neponset River Greenway extends 8.2 miles in it's entirety from the mouth of the Neponset River in Dorchester to the Martini Shell in Hyde Park. More information on the trail can be found here.
