BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The new owner of a Beacon Hill bar wants his establishment to stay open until 2 a.m., a decision that the Boston Licensing Board has approved.
But the only problem is according to court documents, the previous owner of the Beacon Hill Pub on Charles Street had a ‘neighborhood agreement’ to close at midnight, an agreement the Licensing Board never approved.
While the new owner is asking for a court ruling on whether the neighborhood agreement is still enforceable, some Beacon Hill residents have a mixed opinion on the issue.
“Two hours is a pain if it stays open that late,” said one resident.
Another said he had no problem with the later hours. “Midnight vs. two a.m. isn’t going to make a difference,” he said. “There’s also a pretty big hole in the market as far as local pubs,” he added referring to the desire by Boston Mayor Wu’s administration to revitalize Boston nightlife.
Earlier this year Mayor Wu appointed Corean Reynolds as the city’s first Director of Nightlife Economy, also known as the nightlife ‘czar.’ Among her responsibilities… creating opportunities to help the city’s economy bounce back from the pandemic.
