BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston's taxi industry has a new app designed to even the playing field with ride-sharing companies.

It's called 'Arro', allowing customers to download a map of all the existing taxis in the area at any given time.

After entering the trips' to and from, the customer pays for the ride on the app using a credit card.

The trip's cost is said to be comparable to both Uber and Lyft.

Customers like Matt from Hyde Park say he's willing to try the new app and call for a taxi next time he needs a ride. "I don't have a huge preference between Uber and Lyft and taxis," he said. "I'll go with whoever is cheapest, especially in Boston."

Nicole, though, said she's sticking with Uber for the simple reason, that's who she's always used. "I've only known Uber, so I'm going to say that I'm going to stick with them." But she also said that with all of the problems on the MBTA, she sees the benefits of the new taxi app. "I think it's definitely a great option," she said.
