FRANKLIN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new children's museum celebrated its grand opening in Franklin on Wednesday.
The Children's Museum of Franklin was founded by parents Meg Hagen and Erin Gallagher. It features educational exhibits about science, financial literacy, transportation and more.
Hagen and Gallagher said the idea was born out of necessity.
"We have driven an hour plus to find an opportunity like this for our own families for years now," Gallagher said. "You really had to dedicate your day to it. There just wasn't this kind of enrichment opportunity right here in this community."
The museum's website describes it as a "vibrant educational social hub for families across the region." Alongside its hands-on exhibits, the facility is also expected to host classes that Gallagher said will make up for budget cuts in the local school system.
"We've been working closely with the public schools, identifying areas in which we might be able to help address some gaps that they're seeing in students as they head into high school," Gallagher said.
The Children's Museum of Franklin is located at 157 Cottage St., Franklin, Mass.
