New England Professional Baseball Announces 'Name The Team' Contest

BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Whether it's the Boston Red Sox or the Shelbyville Shelbyvillians, it's important to give your baseball team a standout name.

New England Professional Baseball, the latest addition to the Frontier League, is giving fans a chance to do just that with their "Name the Team" contest.

The Frontier League is the oldest running independent baseball league in the United States, with teams in the Northeast and Midwest parts of the country, as well as Eastern Canada. Last month, the league announced a new, yet-to-be-named team in the East Division will play at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, beginning in the 2024 season.

"This is your opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the team and the region. Show your pride, creativity, and passion for the sport by participating in our contest," New England Professional Baseball said in a statement Friday.

The winning participant will be rewarded with the following:

  • Full season tickets for them and up to three guests
  • A special plaque that reads, "I named this team"
  • A day dedicated to the winner celebrated in front of the home crowd and the honor of throwing out the first pitch
  • A commemorate t-shirt and hat
