"The first death is not unexpected, but it is a shock. It’s a shock because it makes this so real for all our families. Our hearts go out to this man and his family," said Gov. Ned Lamont.

Residents at Benchmark Senior Living who were in close contact with the victim have been quarantined, and all patients and workers are being monitored.

Connecticut health officials recently confirmed another positive case of COVID-19 at a Connecticut nursing home, a man living at the Evergreen Health Center in Stafford Springs. He is being treated at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs.

The Department of Public Health will be sending teams to both the Ridgefield and Stafford Springs facilities to try and prevent the spread of the virus through the nursing homes.

There are currently 97 positive and presumptive positive cases in Connecticut as of March 18, according to the Department of Public Health.
