SALEM, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Housing costs have skyrocketed in New Hampshire, fueled by a spike in demand as more people flock to the Granite State.

“The housing prices are astronomical right now, and hard for anybody no matter where you live in New England [but] especially in New Hampshire right now,” said Gina from Pelham, N.H.

According to data from the real estate site Redfin, since the pandemic from 2020-2023, the median home sale price jumped from $276,000 to nearly $450,000.

“I would say that our house has appreciated since the pandemic [and] it has appreciated another 50%,” said Brian, who moved from Massachusetts to Litchfield, N.H. decades ago.

According to the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute in 2024, since the pandemic, the state has seen a net gain in population each year, with more than 25,000 people coming from Massachusetts in 2021 and 2022.

“I would say that [housing] was a lot more affordable before, right up until the pandemic,” added Brian.
