MANCHESTER, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The polls are open in New Hampshire today for the nation’s first primary of the 2024 presidential race. Voters in New Hampshire shared their thoughts on the primary.
WBZ NewsRadio’s James Rojas spoke with voters on both sides of the political spectrum at the Red Arrow Diner in Manchester. The diner has hosted current and former presidential candidates like Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, Joe Biden, Ron DeSantis, and Ben Carson.
And the Red Arrow Diner is also popular with New Hampshire residents, some of whom came to the restaurant after casting their vote at the polls.
“This was my first time voting in New Hampshire, so I’m just really excited. I’ve always wanted to vote in the New Hampshire primary,” one person told Rojas.
Another person discussed the significance of the primary today. “I voted in the Republican primary. I’m registered ‘undeclared,’ but I just thought it was important to vote Republican today,” they said.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I am looking forward to seeing how things change,” another voter shared.
One voter, Ray, talked about the current state of the Republican primary and the candidates who are running. “It’s sad to say but it seems like we should have some better choices for candidates as opposed to what we have now. And we need [to bring] some younger blood into the political arena," he said.
Another New Hampshire voter, Mike, was seventh in line at the polls this morning and voted for a Democratic candidate. “I’m living my New Hampshire primary fantasy,” he said with a laugh.
The major battle happening at the polls today is between Donald Trump and the former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who is looking to pull ahead of the former president after his win in the Iowa caucus last week.
Polling places across New Hampshire are open different hours today, though most are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. To find the exact hours, click here.
