LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — City leaders in Lynn gathered on the waterfront Tuesday for a groundbreaking ceremony at the city's newest park.
Charter Development took possession of the former landfill, cleaned it up, and has begun the process of transforming it into Lynn Harbor Park.
When finished it will feature a butterfly garden, a basketball court, a pickleball court, and plenty of open space next to the water.
Lynn Mayor Jared Nicholson said the park is transformational. "It is taking what was a liability, actually a threat to our environment, and becoming a marquee aspect of our relationship with the natural world."
The park, 22 acres on a hill overlooking Lynn Harbor and Nahant, is scheduled to be completed sometime next year.
